First Year Living at SPACE
Starting university is one of the most exciting moments of your life.
But it can also feel like a big step. New city. New routines. New people.
The biggest question most first year students have is simple.

Will I Make Friends
At SPACE, the answer is yes.
Every year many students choose SPACE for their first year at the University of St Andrews. Many are arriving for the first time, just like you. That means you will be living alongside other first years who are also
looking to meet people, build friendships and start their university journey.
Your accommodation becomes one of the most important places for meeting people.
Coffee before lectures. Studying together during exam season. Late night conversations that turn into lifelong friendships.
This is not just somewhere to live. It is where your university experience begins.
Your year. Your people. Your SPACE.

The SPACE Spender Top Up Card
The SPACE Spender lets you (or your parents) top up your card at the click of a button, offering a simply and flexible way to manage spending.
Your card credit can be used at our onsite coffee & restaurant space, The Social, as well as a variety of venues in town including Mitchells, Forgans, The Vic, and SPACE Coffee. Flash it for everything from your morning matcha to your lunchtime salad, and the amount will be auto-deducted from your balance.
When the balance runs low never fear- your re-usable card can be topped up online with any amount, any time!
A seamless and cashless way to manage spending for our residents, brand new for 2026!
Choose Your Room
Unlike many university halls where rooms are randomly allocated, at SPACE you choose exactly where you live before you arrive.
Every room includes:
The Perfect First Year Tenancy
Your first year should be about enjoying university life, not paying for accommodation you are not using.
That is why SPACE offers 39 week tenancies designed around the academic year.
You stay for the time you actually need. No paying for empty rooms over the summer.
no place. no pay.
A Flexible Alternative to Catered Halls
Many first year students consider catered halls because of the convenience, but catering contracts can be restrictive and expensive.
Our new on site café restaurant gives residents the convenience of catered living without the commitment of a fixed meal plan.
Residents receive exclusive discounts, making it easy to grab food whenever it suits you.
